While we were at music practice last night, at the church, our keyboardist received the most incredible call.It was from a friend, whose husband had recently passed away. She had just received a phone call from a friend who had been out of town at the time of her husband's funeral and
was now offering condolences. That lady had been in Kentucky, for quite some time taking care of a family illness.
Two weeks ago, while still in Kentucky, she told my friend that she saw an elderly man walking along the highway, and although she normally did not do things like that, she stopped and gave him a ride. She said his clothes were just rags; it was obvious that he was homeless.
After they got back on the highway, the man began to speak. The words he said were, "The trumpet is at my lips". His newly appointed chauffeur jerked around to look at him in amazement, but he was gone. Swerving a bit, as she looked around for him inside her car, at highway speeds, a policeman pulled her over.
Very shaken, she relayed her story to him.
The policeman told her, "Ma'am, you are the fifth person today who has seen this same man and told me this same story".
Now, I must admit. Although I feel the person telling this story is quite credible... by nature, I am a skeptic. So, my first reaction was "Yeah, yeah. I've heard variations of that story before", but as we began to speak about the truth behind that little story that's been told and re-told for decades, I began to get excited.
We began to talk about the way this world appears to be lining up with the word of God, to be the last days. Another friend said, "yes, we're in the 11th hour" and then became so excited as she realized a 'phenomena' of her own. For several days now, she has been vaguely noticing a pamphlet laying on the desks of the counselors at work, entitled The Eleventh Hour. She believes the Lord has been trying to get her to realize it is the 11th hour. I know that in our prayer meetings and our talk, God has been impressing on us to pray differently and to step out and do some things we have not been doing.
I realized that it really doesn't matter if this story is true, or isn't. What matters is that the times and actions of this world are lining up with what the word of God describes as the last days. Wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, famine, pestilences...
As Christians, we are supposed to find comfort and joy in the return of the Lord. So, does it really matter what method catches our attention to help keep us focused on that day?
He's coming soon. He really is coming back! And since, as the man in the car indicated, we are all waiting on a certain trumpet to sound the call ~ to use the words of our friend, whose husband has already gone on, "Blow it! Just blow it!"

My first thoughts, while reading this, were also, "Yeah, Yeah". But then I thought, "Well, Why Not?".
