Man, can that preach!
Those five words are excerpted from the passage about Jesus being anointed in Bethany. Mark recounted the event, telling us that Jesus proclaimed this woman would forever be remembered for her act.
Have we done whatever we could? I wonder if we did, if He would proclaim the same about us?
Don't you have a deep desire to do something? To make a difference? To make your life count? To make HIS life count?
What is it that you can do? What do you have to offer?
So often, we think we don't have anything to offer. Moses didn't think so, but God asked him what he had in his hand. Turned out that Moses' staff was a pretty powerful tool, when given to God.
Many times we think what we have is too meager to offer. The widow woman thought this about the little bit of flour she had for her and her son. But when given to God, that little bit became a life-giving supply for not only her and her son, but the man of God, too.
Recently, my pastor-husband spoke about his own whining to God about people not getting to see what he could have done for God if he had just had some financial resource. The challenge came back, "Well, show them what can you do with nothing."
Each one of us can do something; it may require some creativity, possibly some thoughtful planning. One thing for sure, it requires a first step.
Look around you. What needs to be done? Who needs help? What's in your hand? Give it up to God and let him turn little into much.
Should I leave this world by way of the grave, I hope my epitaph can read in all truth, 'She did what she could'.
I want to leave you with an old song from Newsong:
Light Your World
Two doors down one rocking chair is rocking
She sits there all alone, her husband dead and gone
The best years of her life they spent together
He was always strong, but now she's on her own
And the telephone never rings
No one laughs, no one sings
It's quiet there
Does anyone care?
(Chorus) Light your world
Let the love of God shine through
In the little things you do
Light your world
And though your light may be
Reaching only two or three
Light your world
A knocking at her door breaks the silence
She looks out to see a little boy from down the street
She cracks the door, surprised that he came over
Flowers in his hand like a little gentleman
He said, 'I picked these just for you
I hope you like the color blue
Could I stay a while
I love to see you smile.'
(Repeat Chorus) Light your world
Let the love of God shine through
In the little things you do
Light your world
And though your light may be
Reaching only two or three
Light your world
It only takes a little time
To show someone how much you care
It only takes a little time
To answer someone's biggest prayer
Sometimes I read a post and feel like it was addressed to me.
ReplyDeleteWOW! This whole past year I have been living a pity party because of my back problems and inability to do what I love. I just "knew" that there wasn't anything else for me to do to help others or to help myself.
I haven't figured out what it is yet, but thanks for reminding me that I do have something to offer.
Have a great New Year!
